Sleeping in Cairo Airport: Sleep Pods, Terminals, and Hotels

Cairo International Airport is open 24 hours, and passengers do sleep in its terminals every night. Whether you should depends on how long you have, which terminal you are in, and how much rest you actually need before the next leg.

Sleeping in the terminals

The public areas stay open all night, and security generally leaves resting passengers alone. The realities are the usual ones: armrests on most seating rows, bright lighting, announcements, and air conditioning that runs cold in the small hours. Terminal 3, the newest and largest terminal, has the most seating and services; Terminal 1 is older, with fewer comfortable corners. If you plan to sleep landside, keep your documents and valuables secured and set an alarm with margin for security queues, which build quickly at peak departure banks in the early morning.

Sleep pods and hotel pods

The airport has introduced sleep pods and larger hotel pods across its terminals in recent years, including installations in Terminal 3 and Terminal 1, with capsules bookable by the hour directly at the airport. Capacity is limited and the offering has been expanding, so treat availability as first-come-first-served and check the current locations on arrival. For a solo traveller on a medium layover they are the cheapest private rest option inside the buildings.

A real bed: the bridge-linked hotel

Le Meridien Cairo Airport is the only hotel physically connected to the airport: a pedestrian link bridge runs from the mezzanine level of Terminal 3 to the hotel, about a five minute walk. It sells day-use rooms as well as overnight stays, and its coffee bar operates 24 hours. If your itinerary touches Terminal 3 and you want proper sleep, this is the default answer.

Hotels a shuttle ride away

If the bridge hotel is full or your budget is tighter, Novotel Cairo Airport runs a free 24-hour shuttle roughly every 30 minutes and also offers day rooms, and Le Passage Cairo Hotel & Casino runs its own free shuttle around the clock about five minutes from the terminals. Radisson Blu Hotel, Cairo Heliopolis is a shuttle-served option three kilometres out. For a longer break with more comfort, the two Heliopolis five-stars, Hilton Cairo Heliopolis Hotel and Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis, are about five kilometres away by taxi.

Practical notes

Egypt requires most nationalities to hold a visa to leave the transit area; many travellers can buy one on arrival, but check your eligibility before planning a landside sleep or a hotel stay. Between terminals, allow time for the airport’s internal transfers rather than assuming a quick walk. And see our day rooms guide for hourly options and our transfer guide if you are heading into the city instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sleep overnight inside Cairo Airport?

Yes. Cairo International Airport operates around the clock and tolerates overnight stays in the public areas, though seating is firm, announcements continue through the night, and air conditioning runs cool. Bring a layer and expect light sleep at best.

Does Cairo Airport have sleep pods?

Yes. The airport has introduced sleep pods and larger hotel pods across its terminals, including Terminal 3 and Terminal 1, bookable on the spot. Capacity is small, so at busy times a day room at a nearby hotel is the safer plan.

Which hotel is closest for a few hours of sleep?

Le Meridien Cairo Airport is joined to Terminal 3 by a pedestrian bridge and sells day-use rooms, making it the only option where you can walk from the gate area to a real bed without a car.
